With pathos, you persuade with emotion.
"It is our duty as Americans to defend the cause of freedom and liberty in the world."
Pathos should complement (not replace) ethos or logos. You violate pathos by going solo with it.
"And we're going to defend the shit out of it with the might and power of the greatest military force the world has ever seen. God bless America"
